Komal, aged 14, from a remote village near Kullu, developed a severe curvature of the spine (scoliosis). Because of her family’s limited finances and distant geography, she had never been diagnosed or treated properly until the curvature had progressed to the point of affecting her breathing and causing chronic pain.
Intervention by Divya Himachal Charitable Trust:
We arranged for Komal to visit a specialist orthopedic hospital free of cost.
The Trust covered diagnostic tests (X‑ray, MRI), surgical fees, post‑operative physiotherapy, and follow‑ups.
Our volunteers also provided lodging and transport support so that Komal and her family could stay near the hospital during her treatment.
After:
Six months after surgery and regular physiotherapy, Komal’s spinal curve has significantly reduced. She can now walk without assistance, participate in light chores, and her breathing capacity has improved. She reports significantly less pain.
Impact:
Restored Komal’s physical mobility and improved quality of life.
Reduced medical and travel costs burden for her family.
Raised hope in her village—others sought screening early.
