Sonu , a 55 ‑year‑old farmer from a hamlet in Shimla district, suffered a stroke which left him with partial paralysis of one side, speech difficulties, and loss of ability to care for himself. His family had no means for ongoing rehab or medical intervention beyond immediate first aid.
Intervention by Divya Himachal Charitable Trust:
The Trust arranged for Rajesh’s admission to a neurological rehabilitation centre.
They funded speech therapy, physiotherapy, assistive devices (walker, orthotic support), and home modifications to aid mobility.
Volunteers provided counseling to Sonu and his family, helping them adapt, plan daily care, and maintain morale.
After:
After 8 months, Sonu regained partial use of his arm and leg, his speech has improved (can speak simple sentences), and he’s now able to walk with support. He can do basic self‑care tasks (eating, bathing) independently.
Impact:
Significant functional improvement, enabling Sonu to rejoin community life.
Emotional uplift for the family; lowered stress both psychologically and financially.
Inspired others in neighbouring hamlets to seek early medical help for neurological issues.
